This exceptional Japanese samurai katana has been meticulously handcrafted with a full-tang blade made from folded steel, folded 13 times to create 8,192 layers. This process enhances both the blade’s flexibility and hardness to a remarkable degree. The blade has been oil-quenched and treated to produce striking red and black patterns, which not only add to its aesthetic appeal but also provide protection against rust. These colors are durable and will not fade unless the blade is re-polished.
The blade features no HI on either side but is equipped with a CHU-kissaki at the tip. The tsuba (guard) is crafted from brass with a detailed dragon design, complemented by a one-piece brass habaki and secured with two copper seppas (spacers). The fuchi (sleeve) and kashira (buttcap) are also made of brass, ensuring durability and elegance.
The tsuka core is made of sturdy wood, wrapped with black ray skin (same) and purple synthetic fiber tsuka-ito. The tang is securely fastened into the tsuka with two bamboo mekugi. The saya (sheath) is constructed from hard wood with a black matte finish, and the sageo is a purple synthetic silk cord, wrapped around a bright copper kurigata.
